Artist’s Statement:

I am an alumnus of Second City so I have a slightly bent view of the world which I like to reflect in my art. I had a wonderful quilt teacher once who said that perfection in quilts can be boring and safe. Some may say that this is an excuse to be sloppy and inaccurate but I believe it opens the door to experimentation and discovery.

The world’s flora and fauna has always held great a great fascination for me and that focus is evident in my art. Using my photographs for reference and inspiration I create landscapes or animals in fabric and embellish with thread usually by hand.

The thread paintings are created by painting my photographs with many layers and colours of thread, a technique I learned from Carol Shinn. I love the rich dimension that this obsession with thread gives to these pieces.

I will continue to experiment with other methods of quilting.
